About Our Founder

Kimberly’s Helms is the owner of Bountiful Bonsai•Sensational Succulents located in West Palm Beach. She became a Floridian in 1979, when her parents moved their family from Michigan to Hollywood, Florida and brought their love of plants with them. Kimberly attended Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana; where she studied business administration with an emphasis on marketing and accounting. After moving around South Florida for ten years, her family found a house they loved in West Palm Beach, where they have resided for the past twenty-two years.

Kimberly discovered her passion for making bonsai in 1995, when she was the marketing director for the mail order division of a nursery in Boynton Beach. The nursery is now a neighborhood. For the past thirty years, she has enjoyed not only taking a plant and magically turning it into a miniature tree but also sharing her passion for The Art of Bonsai with others. There is always something new and fascinating to learn about this mystical art form that has been around for millennia and it is fun to share what you learn with others.

Kimberly grows some of her bonsai plants and most of her succulents at her state-certified nursery, Sensational Succulents. Her interest in succulents started in 1976, when her Mom gave her a cactus from a roadtrip. Eventually, her love of succulents and rock gardens inspired her to create a forty-foot half circle rock garden. Years ago, she started taking cuttings from it to make container gardens. Her friends liked them and wanted to buy them, thus began her business of teaching bonsai and succulent classes.

Kimberly volunteered at Mounts Botanical Garden from 2016-2019 and began their succulent propagation program which grew their succulent inventory from a couple of plants into thousands. She created large arrangements for Mounts silent auctions in Palm Beach, the gift shop, and various events hosted at Mounts. She is self-taught through trial-and-error and from reading numerous books. She is a member of the Wellington Garden Club, and her home and gardens have been on the Wellington Garden Club Tour and the Mounts Botanical Garden Tour.

Through her business, Bountiful Bonsai•Sensational Succulents, Kimberly teaches workshops where attendees make bonsai or succulent gardens to any group or gathering of people interested in engaging in a fun, new activity.
